Basement Fire Assisting Company 68!

Early this morning at 0118 Hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Structure Fire to assist Company 68 (West Lancaster). Truck 67 (Rohrerstown) arrived on the scene and reported smoke showing. First in units found a spreading basement fire which was quickly contained. The 84 Rescue arrived with a crew of 6 and was preparing to set up RIT when Command had our job function changed. Fire was knocked down, so the 84 crew was sent to manpower staging. Crew remained there for a short time and was then put to work overhauling the basement. Once it was confirmed the fire was out, the 84 Rescue was put available. The 84 Rescue worked the scene for 97 minutes. Monday Brings A Mix Of Incidents!

Monday started at 0657 Hours for a vehicle accident on Route 30. The 84 Rescue was put available and the Engine handled spill control from the minor accident. Then the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Structure Fire assisting Company 711 (Rheems). The 84 Rescue went enroute with 6. Updated report was smoke in the structure, first in fire units confirmed a problem with the stove and put the Rescue available as we were arriving. Then at 1922 Hours the 84 Boat was dispatched to East Donegal Township assisting Company 79 (Maytown) for a Public Service. The 84 Boat was already on the Susquehanna River doing some Monday Night training so it was reloaded onto the trailer and headed North to Company 79's area. Deputy 79 arrived on the scene and confirmed he needed no help from the 84 Brothers so we were put available.

RIT Assignment To Rheems!

Just as a severe storm was passing through the Susquehanna Valley, the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Structure Fire assisting Company 711 (Rheems). The 84 Rescue went enroute with 6 and arrived on the scene and was given the RIT sector. Chief 711-2 arrived on the scene reporting a working attic fire. Crews from 74 (Etown), 75 (Mount Joy), and 711 were working the scene extinguishing the fire and opening up the building when we arrived. The 84 Crew remained as RIT until the incident went under control. The RIT sector was stood down and the 84 Crew was put to work overhauling the 2nd floor. The 84 Rescue and crew assisted at the scene for 2 hours.

MVA In The 84 Local!

The Day Crew was put to work at 1444 Hours for a Vehicle Accident Class 2 in the 84 Local. The 84 Engine and Rescue 842 were due for the incident. Rescue 842 went enroute and arrived on the scene finding a three car MVA with one vehicle blocking the intersection. Lieutenant Keyser confirmed one minor injury and debris on the roadway. The 84 Engine arrived and crew assisted Rescue 2's crew with debris clean up. EMS on the scene treating and transporting the victim to the local hospital. Vehicle was removed from the intersection and Command put the box in service at 1511 Hours.

Fire Reported Through The Roof!

Today at 0917 Hours the 84 Engine and Rescue were dispatched for a Structure Fire assisting Company 76 (West Hempfield) along with the remainder of the 1st alarm. The 84 Engine enroute and LCWC gave the update that caller reported seeing flames coming from the Bank's roof. The additional information had the 84 Engine Officer hitting the hydrant at the closest corner. As the 84 Engine was laying into the Bank's parking lot, Deputy 84 (Wiseman) reported the fire to be coming from the propane facility behind the bank. Deputy 84 confirmed employees working in the facility were burning off excessive gas and no need for the fire department. The 84 Engine crew repacked the 500' of 5" supply line and went returning available.

Two More Incidents On The Susquehanna!

Saturday was quiet until 1727 Hours when the 84 Boat was dispatched for a Brush Fire on an Island North of the Route 30 Bridge. The 84 Boat was loaded up with our portable fire pump, hose and nozzles that would be needed if there was a fire on the island. Rescue 842 and Boat 84 went enroute and arrived at the Columbia River Park. Deputy 76 (Carter) arrived on the Route 30 Bridge reporting nothing evident from the island and putting the box in service. Then at 2306 Hours the 84 Boat was again dispatched North of the Route 30 bridge for a Water Rescue. Rescue 842 and Boat 84 enroute with 6 and arrived at the Columbia River Park first and launched Boat 84. Crew headed North on the Susquehanna but encountered shallow water in the area of the Route 30 Bridge along with fog coming off the river. Boat 78 (Washington Boro) was dispatched as the RIT boat and Boat 710 (Marietta) was dispatched to come South on the river due to the shallow water. As crews were working their way to the victim, a civilian boater removed the victim from the rocks and transported him to the York County shore for EMS to evaluate his condition. All boats were removed from the river putting the box in service.

Investigation On The Susquehanna!

Today at 0914 Hours, the 84 Rescue Boat was dispatched for an Investigation on the Susquehanna River to assist Company 78 (Washington Boro). Rescue 842 and Boat 84 enroute and arrived at the Blue Rock Road Landing. Boat 84 was launched and Command was set up by Chief 62 (Ditzler). LCWC advised that the caller had a motorcycle partly submerged in the river. Boat 84 arrived with the caller finding a motor scooter on the edge of the water. License plate number was retrieved and Police Department called the owner. Owner confirmed that the scooter was broken down and someone must of pushed it into the river. Scooter was removed from the water and the box put available. The 84 Boat worked the scene for 1 hour 45 minutes.

1 Reported Trapped In Columbia Borough!

The Day Crew was put to work at Lunch time for a Vehicle Accident with Entrapment. A Mutual Aid Chief came across the accident and confirmed entrapment. Engine 87 arrived and found a two car crash with one injured victim still in the vehicle. The 84 Rescue arrived shortly behind the Engine. Engine crew pulled a suppression line for fire protection. The 84 Rescue crew stabilized the vehicle and set up the "Jaws Of Life" along with Sawz-all to extricate the victim. EMS was treating the victim and gave the go ahead to begin extrication. The 84 Rescue Officer tried the door handle before extrication began and confirmed the door operated normally. With the victim not being trapped, the 84 Rescue crew assisted EMS with patient removal from the vehicle.

Dwelling, Stand-by And An Accident!

As the 84 Rescue was at the County Fire School working with SVEMS, the 84 Engine was dispatched for a Residential Structure Fire assisting York Company 44 (Craley). The 84 Engine went enroute with a crew of 6 in 3 minutes. The Engine arrived and crew was sent to manpower staging. First in Companies made a nice stop of the advancing fire on the second floor. The Engine crew stood by in man-power staging with no assignments given. Due to the nice stop the fire was brought under control quickly. Command 44 had the Engine crew pick up equipment and transfer to their station for stand by while they mopped up the fire. The Engine worked both incidents for almost 2 Hours until we were released. Then at 1553 Hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched for an MVA, Class 1, involving a motorcycle on Route 441 assisting Company 76 (West Hempfield). The Rescue arrived and assisted the EMS with patient care and packaging of the injured motorcycle rider. Patients were being transported to the hospital putting the 84 Rescue available in 18 minutes
