Two Runs For Saturday!

Saturday started at 0656 hours for a Structure Fire to assist Company 68 (West Lancaster). The 84 Rescue went enroute with a crew of 7 and arrived on the scene. The 84 Rescue crew set up the RIT sector on the "Alpha" side of the incident. A small fire was quickly controlled by first arriving units. The 84 Rescue crew stood by with no other incidents. Once the fire was under control the 84 Rescue was put available. Then at 1937 hours the 84 Engine was dispatched to a leaking railroad car in Columbia Borough. The 84 Engine arrived on the scene first and found a railroad car that was venting carbon dioxide from the tank. The Duty Officer from the Lancaster County Haz-Mat team was notified with no other actions needed. The assignment was put available and all units returned to service.

Back To Back Runs!

Today the 84 Engine was dispatched for a Spill Control in the 84 Local. The 84 Engine responded with a crew of 5 and arrived on the scene. Crew controlled the leaking fluids from a vehicle that was involved in a accident. As the 84 Engine was working this scene, the 84 Rescue Boat was dispatched for a Water Rescue to assist Company 76 (West Hempfield). Rescue 842 and Boat 84 responded with a crew of 5. Updated information had 2 victims in the water holding onto their canoes. Boat 84 arrived, launched from the Columbia River Park and headed North on the Mighty Susquehanna River. Boat 84 arrived in the area finding the victims were swimming in the river with no problems. Assignment was put available and all boats returned to shore.

Apartment Building Fire!

Saturday started early for the Night Crew. This morning at 0245 hours the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue were dispatched for an Apartment Building fire to assist Company 76 (West Hempfield). The 84 Engine went enroute with a crew of 5 arriving on the scene with smoke showing. The 84 Engine laid 200' of supply line to the fire building. The 84 Engine crew advanced the 250' 2" handline into the building. Crew advanced the line up to the second floor finding a bag of laundry on fire. The can man on the 84 Engine extinguished the fire quickly with the handline never being needed. Truck 67 arrived on the scene and set up PPV to clear the smoke from the structure. The assignment was down-graded to 84, 67 and 76. Crews investigated and had the State Police Fire Marshal respond to the scene.

Dwelling Fire To Assist Company 78!

At 1357 hours the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue were dispatched for a Structure Fire to assist Company 78 (Washington Boro). The 84 Engine went enroute with a crew of 4 with Lieutenant 78 in the area reporting the incident to be a controlled burn behind the residence. Lieutenant 78 held the assignment to the 84 Engine and Station 78. The 84 Engine arrived with the crew advancing the trash line to the fire. Tanker 78 gave the 84 Engine and crews from 84 and 78 plenty of water to extinguish the burning pile of debris. Station 78 and 84 were available at 1430 hours.

Search Detail In Marietta Borough!

At 1544 hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Search Detail to assist Company 710 (Marietta). The 84 Rescue went enroute with a crew of 7 with additional information that we were to respond to Station 710 to receive the additional information. The 84 Rescue and crew arrived and received the additional information that we were looking for a 53 year old male. The 84 Rescue crew worked the scene for 6 hours and 3 minutes until the male victim was found. EMS took over patient care and transported to the local hospital. During the height of the search, 8 Fire Departments were looking for the victim.
As the 84 Rescue was committed to the search operations, Rescue 68 (West Lancaster) stood by in Station 84 to cover Columbia Borough, West Hempfield, and Manor Township. Thank You Rescue 68 and your crew!

6 On Saturday Keeps the 84 House Busy!

Saturday morning started at 0203 hours with the final run for the day ending at 2345 hours. The first run was a Vehicle Fire on Walnut Street in Columbia Borough. The 84 Engine enroute with 5, Police Department confirmed a airbag deployed with no Fire Department needed. The next run was to assist Company 76 (West Hempfield) on a Water Rescue. 76 arrived and confirmed no rescue needed. 84 Units were put available. Then another Vehicle Fire on Manor Street, Columbia had the 84 Engine responding. Crews found some wires smoldering in the engine compartment. The fire was quickly controlled and the 84 Units went available. As we were backing into station, Boat 84 was dispatched to assist Company 78 (Washington Boro) for a Water Rescue on the Susquehanna River. Crews found 2 victims stranded in their boat. Victims were taken to shore along with their boat. 84 Units worked the scene for 75 minutes. At 2257 the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Building Fire to assist Company 75 (Mount Joy). As the 84 Rescue was arriving, Company 75 held the assignment to 75 only. As we were responding to this incident, the 84 Engine was dispatched to an Apartment Building to assist Company 76. 76 was dispatched for an investigation with Chief 76 arriving, finding smoke showing and had the assignment upgraded. The 84 Engine arrived and advanced a handline into the apartment finding a stove fire which was out. Crews from 76 and 84 cleared the smoke condition and the assignment was put available.

This photo was taken in the early 1970's showing a few members of the 84 Rescue crew treating an injured victim from a Vehicle Accident. The accident was in the 300 Block of North 2nd Street, Columbia Borough. 40 years later, the visitors and citizens of Columbia Borough continue to receive expedient, professional fire and rescue protection from the "Hambones"!

Smoke In The Mid-rise Apartment Complex!

Today at 1944 hours the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue were dispatched for an Auto Alarm in Columbia Borough. The 84 Engine went enroute with 5, and Engine 87 investigated and find smoke on the 3rd floor. The 84 Engine arrived and laid a supply line from the hydrant to the FDC. The crew went interior to assist 87's crew. The 84 Rescue arrived with a crew of 4 and staged. Interior crews reported burnt food in the oven downgrading the assignment. The crews from the 84 Engine and Rescue picked up the supply line and went available.

Door Pop In Columbia!

Today at 1545 hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) in Columbia Borough. The 84 Rescue went enroute with a crew of 4 with EMS reporting one patient confined in the vehicle. Engine 87 arrived ahead of the 84 Rescue and pulled a handline for fire suppression. The 84 Rescue arrived and stabilized the vehicle. The 84 Rescue opened up the driver's side door for EMS. Once the door was open, EMS packaged the patient and removed them from the vehicle. The patient was then transported to the local hospital for evaluation. Crews from 87 and 84 depowered the two vehicles, cleaned up debris and removed all hazards. Once this was done the 84 Rescue went available and returned to station.

Day Crew Runs 2 On Monday!

The 84 Rescue was dispatched for an AFA to assist Company 715 (Mountville). First arriving units reported smoke in the building and upgraded the response also bringing the 84 Engine. The 84 Engine arrived on the scene and staged, working the scene for 25 minutes. Then at 0947 hours the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue were dispatched for an AFA in Columbia Borough. Engine 87 arrived first with the 84 Engine staging at the hydrant. Captain Keyser established Command 8 with the remainder of the crew going to the alarm panel. Crews found a false alarm in the apartment. Command terminated the event and all units went available.
